Cat Cushions

This pattern for a cat cushion or Mindy the Moggie cushion by Amanda Berry that I found on the Let’s Knit magazine website is a favourite of mine. I have made the pattern a number of times, with different types of yarn. I love how easy it is, how the pattern can be changed to create different types of cats. These cats were made with Premier Yarns Isaac Mizrahi Craft Skyscraper yarn. I had about four skeins of this in my stash and it wasn’t enough to make a larger garment like a sweater and I could not buy more of the yarn so I looked for some larger toys that I could make that would use these skeins. I was able to make two cat cushions, an owl tea cozy and there is still a skein left to use!

Homespun Knit Cat

I’ve still been working through my Lion Brand Homespun stash and making very large and cozy stuffies. Most recently has been a large knit cat from Knitted Toy Tales by Laura Long. I also used some fabric to sew inside the ears like Laura does in her books.

I was hoping this cat would use up a lot of the Hepplewhite that I had left over from the Polar Bear that I recently completed but surprisingly, it didn’t use as much yarn as I thought so I still have nearly a whole skein left to still use. Maybe I will use it to make a jellyfish from Crochet Sea Creatures by Vanessa Mooncie.

Completed Knit Cat Doorstop

I completed the Knit Cat Doorstop earlier this week. It looks great, is quite a bit bigger than I was expecting and shows off the pattern of the yarn very nicely. It is very cuddly and definitely a stuffie, not a doorstop!

WIP: Little Knit Cats

via Let’sKnit.co.uk

From Let’s Knit Magazine Issue 142 – further patterns that I have been using to use up the Bernat Jacuard yarn from the bunny with pyjama patterns.

I have so far been able to make, the pyjamas for Alma the bunny, two of these small cats and now the larger Cat Doorstop which I hope will finish up the skein. It seems like a very large skien!

WIP: Cat Doorstop

via LetKnit.co.uk

In my last post about Alma the bunny wearing pyjamas pattern that I was working on, I mentioned that I was working on other projects to use up the rest of the Bernat Jacquard yarn that I had used for the pyjamas. One of the projects that I have been working on to do that is this Cat Doorstop by Aine Marriott from Let’s Knit Magazine issue 143. I seemed like a great fit because the cat is meant to be made with a self-patterning yarn and there is flexibility on the finished size. I am not sure I am going to make mine as a doorstop – there are not that many doors in my house that need to be held open, so I will probably just make it a regular stuffed cat.

Crochet Chubby Cat

This is a little crochet cat I made from a skein of a t-shirt type yarn. I was inspired by a small crochet cat pattern from Let’s Get Crafting Knitting & Crochet #91 that came as part of a kit – Kitty Cat by Irene Strange.

I had remembered making that little cat a few years ago and I had this skein of pink t-shirt yarn and thought I would do something similar. He’s quite a bit bigger than the kitty cat, I wanted to make sure i used the whole skein and I made the base quite round so he can sit up on his own. Overall he turned out quite well and very cute!

I made another with some leftover yarn from other projects:

This guy is a bit smaller but still very cheery! He found a new home at the craft fair last November! He was made with left over yarn from Harriet the Flamingo – Patons Decor the variegated colours and Impeccable in Coral.

Smudge the Cat: Completed

I have finished Smudge the Cat, which I started a few weeks ago from Cute Comfort Knits by Jem Weston. He is a very big cat (which is a lot of what I do, making big toys) but very cuddly.

Hugo, of hugolovesbags

This is what my cat Hugo, of the blog name hugolovesbags looks like nowadays. He was lounging in the sun recently and actually let me take a good picture of him. He’s a good looking cat – and he knows it!

Planned Christmas Knitting

I had big plans this year to get started on my holiday knitting early.  As usual, it did not happen, but I havr started thinking about it now.

I was looking at back issues of Knit Simple and came aross a cat scarf from the Holiday 2015 issue that would be very cute for my niece.

If made it in orange and white, it would look just like her cat, Buster.

There were also a cute little mice, bunny and teddy bear trio with outfits in the same issue that would make a  great stocking stuffer.

So many ideas already!
