Knit Benji the Bear

This is Benji the Bear from Amanda Berry’s pattern from Simply Knitting issue 189 and the Amanda Berry Knitted Toy Collection special magazine. The original bear in the pattern is made from a soft furry like yarn.

I didn’t have a yarn like that in my stash, but I still have lots of browns so I used Loops & Threads Urban in Brown. He is a very large bear with long legs and I didn’t even use all the L&T Urban that I had. He is very cute though and was fairly easy to make. The head, body and legs were all made in once piece and the ears, arms and soles of the feet were knitted separately and sewn on.

More Crochet Square Bears

I have worked on more Crochet Square Bears from Yarnspirations

I have made a couple of sleeping bears that have no arms and legs but still very cute and cuddly.

And then I made a sleeping bear with some super bulky yarn from my stash

Crochet Square Bear

First Crochet Square Bear completed in two days! I used yarn from my stash for the sweater portion and Caron Simply Soft Tweed for the bear body. Very cute pattern from Yarnspirations.

Sewing – Warren the Charity Bear

I have long had an interest in sewing toys to go along with knitting and crocheting them but I have not had the time or energy to get started on it. Awhile ago I came across this adorable pattern from Shiny Happy World for Warren the Charity Bear. I loved how simple it seemed to be but with enough variety in nose design and other elements to make the bears really cute. I have also been collecting and saving some old sweaters that couldn’t really make it as clothing but could be upcycled to toys. Now that I have more time due to being home all the time, I decided to finally get started on making some Warren bears. It has been really fun and I have been able to practice my handsewing!

I have now made 13 Warren bears, from a variety of materials and I love them all! They are really quick to make once the pattern is cut out of the fabric.

Thanks to Wendi at Shiny Happy World for providing the pattern!

Bertie the Furry Bear

I recently completed Bertie from the book Cute Amigurumi Animals by Eleonore & Maurice. My Bertie turned out larger than the pattern but that is pretty normal for me and my work. I think he looks very cute and I like how little his legs and arms are.

I used Loops & Threads Impeccable in Heather with a small amount of white yarn from my stash for the muzzle. I also used some fabric from my stash for the belly. In the original pattern, Bertie has “fur” embroidered all over but I didn’t want to do that so I left him as is.

WIP Teddy Cushion

via Ravelry

I have started the Barry Bear cushion in early January from Kristi Simpson’s book Fun Animal Pillows. I had completed all the piece but not sewn and stuffed them yet. I used Bernat Premium Tweed in Brown Tweed, which I had a lot of since a shawl I planned to make with it did not work out.

Teddy Bear Messenger Bag

I have completed the teddy bear messenger bag for my nephew from Ana Paula Rimoli’s book, Amigurumi On The Go. It was a pretty easy make as far as the crochet part, but it had a lot of pieces that needed to be sewn together. Overall I think it is super cute and I hope he likes it!

It was made with Eatons Sayelle Knitting Worsted. The whole bag used one skien which was about 200g so it was very economical, especially since the yarn was free. Since it is an older yarn and quite a rough feeling acrylic, I think it is perfect for using as a bag as it will be durable. The teddy face is made from Lion Brand Heartland that I had in my stash and some safety eyes.

WIP: Teddy Bear Messenger Bag

via Ravelry.com

I have chosen the two projects to make for my nephew – the messenger bag is a go and I started working on it on the train this morning. I am using a very old yarn that was in my stash – Eaton’s Sayelle Knitting Worsted. Someone found it and gave it to me and I have been hanging on to it for a long time. I got three 200g skeins so I was able to make a teddy bear bag for my niece in 2018 and a whale bag also in 2018. All patterns were from Ana Paula Rimoli’s book Amigurumi On The Go.

I still had a skein of the Eaton’s yarn left over from these other projects and will use it to make this bag, it is a blue denim colour so should work perfectly for this project.

WIP : Monster Bear

Look at this cute little guy! Also from Simply Knitting, issue 190 (with the cow cushion) I think this would be a really cute gift. I like the idea of using a piece of rickrack for the mouth – very clever.

Bears

Image

These are a couple of bears I made from Laura Long’s book Knitted Toy Travels. The are the polar bear pattern. They are really cute and made in one piece from the nose to tail and then the legs and ears are attached.

The only thing I really have to say that I don’t really like about them are how pointy the noses are. If I was to make another one, I would want to work on changing that element. Otherwise they are a nice way to use up small amounts of yarn.
